Lavreotiki Art Project, 2023
Group project, curated by Amalia Charikiopoulou, focusing on the Lavreotiki area in Attica, Greece, with a fascinating history marked by a mining industry dating back to antiquity. My work, the culmination of a research process of 1,5 years that involved field research and talks with local and national experts on the environment, consisted of two-part installation. A scroll painting (1x10 m) of imprints of slag, remains of the mining operations, collected from the area, together with imprints of my body, on Japanese paper; and an installation of wax and paint sculptural objects, derived from molds of the slag. The models were placed on the fragments of slag from which they derived. Guiding concepts include transposing my body and practice into the landscape, moving through this landscape, regeneration, and caring for the earth. The exhibition took place in Lavrion Technological Park, Lavrion, Greece.
