Lavreotiki Art Project, 2023

Lavrion Technological Park

This group project, curated by Amalia Charikiopoulou, focused on the Lavreotiki area in Attica, Greece, which has a fascinating history, with a mining industry since antiquity. My work for the exhibition consisted of an installation in two parts. A scroll painting (1x10 m) of imprints of slag, remains of the mining operations, together with imprints of my body, on Japanese paper. The second part was an installation of sculptural objects made from wax and paint, derived from molds of the slag collected from the area. The models were placed on the actual slag from which they derived.

The ideas of transposition of my body and my practice to the landscape, moving through the landscape, regeneration, and caring for the earth were central in the creation of these works.
